Review of April 15 Concert

The music of Woodstock ’69, a medley of music written by Charles Strause, marches by Fred Jewett, Joseph Jenkins and John Philip Sousa, flute and euphonium solos played by Maureen Steger and Bob Thurston were all highlights of the last concert of the season.

The Bonita Springs Concert Band wants to thank all of you for your patronage and generosity. Two $500 music scholarships were given to percussionist Paige Harris and saxophonist Gabriel Wallace, two talented high school students. Thank you everyone for contributing to the outstanding, successful fourth season of music played at Riverside Park.

Have a great summer and be sure to attend our opening concert on November 4.

Join the Bonita Springs Concert Band for its Spring concert in Riverside Park on Old 41 in Bonita Springs on April 15 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Dr. Dennis Hill, band director, will lead the talented musicians as they play a lively selection of spirited marches, folk tunes, pop, show tunes, big band medleys and light classics. Special selections will be played by Maureen Steger, flutist, and Bob Thurston, a euphonium musician. View the complete program on the “Musical Selections” page.

March 18 Concert Review

A huge crowd of approximately 900 was treated to a very special concert on Sunday. The highlight of the concert was guest soloist Paul Votapek performing Concertino For Clarinet And Band. Mr. Votapek is the principal clarinetist with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and an adjunct faculty member at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music. His talent and proficiency are amazing. Dance Of The Seven Veils, a percussion feature, was also illuminating. Dr. Hill led the band in playing a tribute to Glenn Miller, a medley of Tony Bennett songs, a Star Trek medley, and a variety of familiar marches that had the audience tapping their feet.

CONCERT SUNDAY, MARCH 18

The Bonita Springs Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Dennis R. Hill, will be performing in Riverside Park on Old 41 in Bonita Springs on March 18 between 2:00 and 4:00 P.M.

After the opening musical selections, Children Of The Regiment and Overture For Band, the band will accompany guest soloist Paul Votapek, principal clarinetist with the Naples Philharmonic and a member of the faculty at the FGCU Bower School of Music. He will dazzle you with his performance of Concertino For Clarinet And Band. A Tribute To Glenn Miller follows and the first half concludes with The Footlifter, a march by Henry Fillmore.

Following intermission, the band will open with The Vanished Army after which the pace will pick up with various themes from the “Star Trek” series and Dance Of The Seven Veils, a percussion feature. You will hear a great arrangement of old standards from Tony Bennett including It Had To Be You, The Good Life, Moonglow, Body And Soul, and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing. The concert will conclude with the rousing “Sound Off” March by John Philip Sousa.

Bring a chair or blanket, and have a picnic in the park.

February 19th Concert Wrap-up

The band just keeps getting better and better. A crowd of approximately 900 people enjoyed a smorgasbord of uplifting music played by the band. A thank you was given to various organizations and donors who so generously supported the band monetarily enabling them to purchase percussion instruments and a trailer for transportation. The percussion section showcased their new insruments playing various compositions. Also, Chris DeLaurentay played a drum solo.

Be sure to mark our next concert date, March 18th, on your calendar. Another wonderful concert is being planned for your enjoyment.

February 19 Concert

Strike up the band! Hear the drum roll! It is the Bonita Springs Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, coming to perform in Riverside Park on Old 41 in Bonita Springs from 2:00-4:00 P.M.This special concert is dedicated to the many generous organizations and individuals in the community who have donated funds to allow for the purchase of percussion equipment and a trailer. The percussion section will be featured in two selections along with the very talented Chris DeLaduranty, who will play a drum solo. Clap your hands and tap your toes to the beat when you hear a medley of marches written by John Philip Sousa. Stand up and sing your school song when the band plays the Big 11 Medley, and listen to Lynn Asper, trumpeter, play A Trumpeter’s Lullaby.

Bring a chair and refreshments and enjoy a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Review of January 22 Concert

The band, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, really showcased their talent on Sunday playing music that made the audience of approximately 800 people sing, hum, and tap their toes. Gabe Wallace, an accomplished high school saxophone player, displayed talent way beyond his years. Triple Treat was flawlessly played by our musicians, and members playing various instruments stepped up to the ”mike” and did their interpretation of Shufflin’Down to Memphis. Swing, marches, light classics, big band medleys and pop completed the program.

January 22 Concert In The Park

The Bonita Springs Concert Band will be presenting a superb musical program on January 22 from 2:00-4:00 PM in Riverside Park on Old 41 in Bonita Springs. Over sixty band members, under the direction of Dr. Dennis Hill, will play rousing marches by John Phillips Sousa, Henry Fillmore and Albert Sweet, a medley of Mancini’s most familiar and famous pieces including Pink Panther, Moon River, Baby Elephant Walk, Dreamsville and Peter Gunn, a beautiful arrangement of Loch Lomond, and The Poet And Peasant Overture, a score from a Viennese operetta. Jazz is on the program and you will be tapping your toes to the band’s renditions of Shifflin’ Down To Memphis and Night Train. A trio of trumpeters will wow the audience with a rendition of Triple Treat and Gabriel Wallace, an award winning high school alto saxophone player who is a member of the band, will entertain by playing Catch Me If You Can from the movie by the same name.
