Bonita Springs Concert Band
Riverside Park, Sunday, November 3, at 2 p.m.
Carolann Sanita & Glenn Basham…Guest Soloists
The next free concert by the Bonita Springs Concert Band will be Sunday, November 3, at 2 p.m. at Riverside Park in downtown Old Bonita. The November concert is a tribute to all our veterans and first responders. Patriotic songs will include “Stars and Stripes Fanfare,” “This is My Country” and “Armed Forces Salute.” Come early and stay late. Nicola Vukovic will be playing his wonderful guitar prior to the concert and after the concert as people depart.
Popular guest soloist Carolann Sanita returns and will perform “Somewhere,” “My Heart Will Go On,” and will narrate “From Sea to Shining Sea.” Carolann has been a soloist with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Though she is formally trained in opera, Carolann Sanita has a deep affection for musical theater. It’s a passion that transported her as the character Marian on the first national tour of the Broadway remake of “The Music Man” and through Europe and Asia as Maria in “West Side Story.”
Glenn Basham is a native of Washington, D.C., and received his Masters of Music from Indiana University. He is in his 28th year as concertmaster of the Naples Philharmonic. He has played with Skitch Henderson on “Swinging with Strings.” He will play a violin solo with the Bonita Springs Concert Band, “Theme from Schindler’s List.”
The 90 band members are under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band. This is the 6th season that Gary has led the band. Gary says “the talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 15 to 90.”
